TOURNAMENT RULES

FIFA rules apply if not modified within

Field Dimensions:
Length 40 yards, width 30 yards (may be smaller fields for younger players). The goals are four feet high by eight feet wide.

Goal Crease: An arc with a radius six (6) inches greater than one half of the width of a goal shall be inscribed on the field in front of each goal. The area formed by the arc and the goal line shall form the 'goal crease.' There is no contact allowed within the goal crease, however, any player may pass through the goal crease. If a ball comes to rest in the goal crease, a goal kick is awarded regardless of who touched the ball last. Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal crease and is an extension of such. If a defender touches the ball in the goal crease, a goal is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal crease, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team.

Goal Scoring: A goal may be scored from the offensive side of the field, ONLY.

Game Duration: The game shall consist of two 12-minute halves separated by a 2 minute half-time period. Games tied after regulation play shall end in a tie, except in playoffs. Players must report to the field at least 15 minutes before game time. A team, at the discretion of the referee, will forfeit at game time if they are not present. There are no time-outs in 4v4.


Playoff Overtime: Shall consist of a sudden-death overtime period of 10 minutes with a coin toss to decide kick-off and direction. The first team to score in overtime is the winner.


Penalty Kicks:
Shall be awarded if, in the referee's opinion, a scoring opportunity was nullified by an infraction. It will be a direct kick from the middle of the half-field line with all players behind the half-field line. After the kick, the offensive team cannot touch the ball again until the defensive team has touched it.


Five Yard Rule: In all dead-ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player's goal is closer than five yards, the ball shall be played five yards from the goal, in line with the place of the penalty.


Kick Ins: The ball shall be kicked into play from the sideline instead of thrown in.


Indirect Kicks: All dead-ball kicks (kick-ins, free kicks) are indirect with the exception of corner/penalty kicks and kick-offs.


Goal Kicks: May be taken from any point on the endline.


Number of Players: Teams may have seven players per team. Four players on the field at one time. Players may only play on one team per division. There are no goalkeepers in 4v4 soccer. Substitutes may occur at any dead-ball situation but players must enter and exit at the half-field mark only.


Kick Off: May be taken in any direction.


Player Registration: All players must be registered on their team's registration form before the tournament begins. Any team or player determined by the Tournament Director to have falsified age or skill level will be dismissed from the tournament. Any substitutions after the team's first game, because of player injury or emergency, must be submitted to the Tournament officials before the substitute player can play. A $10 substitution fee will be charged after the team's first game. The player who has been substituted out can take no further part in the tournament. Substitutions may be made only on the first day of the tournament. Tournament officials have the right to demand proof of the reason for substitution and will rule accordingly.


Player Ejection (Red Card): Referees have the right to eject a player from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off. The teams may then continue with its remaining players. The ejected player will also be suspended for the following game.


Coach Ejection: Referees have the right to eject a coach from the game for continual disobedience or as a result of an incident that warrants sending off.


Scoring (In bracket play): Games will be scored according to the following system: 3 points for a win; 1 point for a tie; 0 points for a loss. A forfeited match will be scored as follows; 3 points for the winner; 0 points for the team that forfeits.


Tie-Breakers: To advance to the final round, teams tied after bracket play will have the tie broken by: (1) results of head to head competition between tied teams. (2) Goal differential-Maximum of 5 (The difference between goals scored minus goals allowed). (3) Penalty kicks from the half-line, every player kicks, sudden death after five.


Protests: NO protests will be allowed.

 

Age of Participants: The age group of each team is determined by the birthdate of the oldest player on the roster and the age group he/she will be playing in in Fall 2004/Spring 2005 seasons.

Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship is to prevail at all times. Coaches will be held responsible for the conduct of themselves, their players, players' parents and spectators.

 

Uniforms: Teams may wear uniforms or the same jerseys/shirts making all players on a given team easily identifiable. Teams are required to have one light colored and one dark colored jersey or t-shirt with them for all matches. Shinguards covered by socks are required for all players at all times.

Fields: All playing fields will be located at Oak View High School in Oak Park.


Interpretation:

The Tournament Director shall resolve all matters concerning interpretation of Tournament Rules
